Business owners looking to make the best of changes in corporate
tax can learn more at a seminar being hosted by Coventry and
Warwickshire solicitors Alsters Kelley next month (September).
The free event being held on Wednesday 29 September will examine
the Coalition Government's changes to the system, which came into
force in June this year.
Colin Witherall, Head of Corporate in the firm's Company
Commercial department, will lead the seminar along with the firm's
retained corporate tax adviser, Lisa Stevenson.
Mr Witherall said: "At first sight, the changes for CGT Relief
look quite dramatic and good for business owners, increasing the
rate of relief from 18 per cent to 28 per cent, while raising the
sums available on Entrepreneurs Relief from £2 million to
£5 million. Inevitably, the devil is in the detail.
"The way in which the relief is calculated has been streamlined
and there are extra rules to ensure that the company concerned is a
trading business and is not being used simply as a way of avoiding
tax."
The seminar, which will focus on SMEs, will also look at
corporate taxation, splitting shares between husband and wife and
carving out subsidiaries and property from companies to ensure
maximum tax efficiency.
Anyone interested in registering for the seminar can do so by
emailing cocoseminars@alsterskelley.com.
