Three and a half years into its role as Programme and Project
Manager to the Royal Shakespeare Company for the Transformation of
the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, Drivers Jonas Deloitte continues to
keep the landmark project on schedule.
A major programme milestone was reached on time when the main
building works achieved Practical Completion on 16 July. The works
- designed by a team led by Bennetts Associates and with
construction management provided by Mace - were completed within
the original contract completion date advised by Drivers Jonas
Deloitte some five years ago and within budget.
Peter Wilson, Project Director for the RSC said of this
achievement: "The success of a project is always grounded on its
early planning and programme and to be on time and on budget at
this stage is a testament to the groundwork and continued wise
guidance provided by the Drivers Jonas Deloitte team."
Stephen Hing, Director for Drivers Jonas Deloitte added: "We are
delighted with the progress made to-date on this project and to
have reached practical completion, within budget and on the exact
date we forecast back in 2005 is a fantastic achievement. This has
been a very ambitious and complex project to marry the best
elements of the existing buildings, with brief to deliver a world
leading new auditorium alongside first class backstage and audience
facilities.
"It is testament to the hard work, commitment and excellent
working relationships demonstrated across this diverse Project Team
that this iconic theatrical site will see the Royal Shakespeare
Theatre reopening on schedule with full productions in February
2011."
Drivers Jonas Deloitte will continue to project manage the fit
out phases for the Transformation of the Royal Shakespeare Theatre
over the summer and autumn, assisting the RSC in the installation
of fixtures, fittings and equipment to turn the building into a
fully functioning theatre.
The Royal Shakespeare and Swan Theatres will re-open in November
with a series of events and activities, which will take place to
test the theatres. Full productions will be staged in February of
2011.
