A leading East Midlands business, AB Waste Disposal has taken on
six new workers in response to clients looking to minimise their
waste and maximise recycling thanks to support and advice it
received from Business Link...
Its complete waste management service includes a comprehensive
range of skips and a licensed transfer station for sorting and
recycling waste materials.
By re-investing in the business, Nottingham based AB Waste
Disposal has achieved steady growth.
Manager Craig Adkins explained: "AB Waste was established in
1995 by my father, Geoff Adkins, and his brother John with one
truck and five skips.
"We have built a thriving business, developing and growing as
the waste industry has changed. We now have a team of 22 employees,
including eight members of the Adkins family.
"The fleet now numbers nine trucks and more than 300 skips and
we continue to exceed our recycling criteria.
"A major contribution to our recycling performance is a bespoke
Trommel screener and recycling picking station which enables us to
maximise waste recovery."
Flexibility to adapt was vital, said Mr Adkins. "We have
developed to meet changes in the industry, including new
legislation, increasing landfill costs and compliance with
environmental regulations.
"Our clients are striving to reduce waste and improve recycling
and look to us to lead the way."
Mr Adkins said he contacted the regional Business Link service
to inquire about resource efficiency and how it might help to
reduce costs and increase competitiveness.
An initial meeting with a Business Link adviser was followed by
a free review, which identified how new technology could bring
major benefits to the business.
As a result, the adviser was able to help AB Waste to
successfully identify and apply for funding towards purchasing new
equipment. Over the past year, more than £250,000 has been
invested in bespoke machinery, which has created six new jobs.
"We continue to look at ways to diversify, reduce outgoings and,
most importantly, increase our recycling potential," added Mr
Adkins. "This has created new revenue streams and we are working
smarter and more efficiently.
"With the new machinery in place we now recycle 85% of waste,
which has dramatically reduced our costs to landfill and the impact
on the environment.
"This also enables our clients to meet their recycling criteria
and help keep their waste management costs down."
Mr Adkins is continuing to work with Business Link to reduce
landfill and increase the amount of waste recycled still
further.
"We used the new specialist consultancy service to focus on
future projects. The help we received has been invaluable. We are
aiming to strengthen and develop our business further."
