The parish of Ordsall, near Retford in north Nottinghamshire
will celebrate acquiring a brand new Rectory when the building is
handed over to The Diocese of Southwell & Nottingham by William
Hill Builders on Wednesday 25th August.
The official ceremony at 10:00 am will mark the completion of
the project by the Nottingham-based building contractors who worked
closely with architect Martin Tucker and the Southwell Diocesan
advisers. The work was completed within six months and came in
under budget.
The strikingly modern design of 2,200 sq ft incorporates a
significant proportion of glasswork, split heating over two floors,
open plan spaces and large inter-connecting rooms to provide a
versatile private house, clergy office and communal space.
Intricate roof work absorbed over 11,000 handmade Rosemary Clay
tiles, and the hard landscaping benefits from quality block paving,
gravel and natural stone.
"We had between 5 and 14 of our tradesmen on site at any one
time," says Paul Martin, Operations Manager for William Hill
Builders. "This has been an extremely rewarding project working to
an imaginative design with the best materials. It just goes to show
that you can achieve an excellent building to a reasonable budget
if it is well designed."
Southwell and Nottingham Diocesan Surveyor, Ian Greaves, adds:
"The construction of the new Rectory has enabled us to provide the
new Team Vicar with a purpose built house which will serve the
needs of the Vicar and the Parish for the foreseeable future. The
house provides a good standard of accommodation in which to both
live and work and is ideally situated next to the church. It is
very important to us that we are able to provide clergy with good
quality housing at reasonable cost which is economical with regard
to heating, energy efficiency and general maintenance. We are
particularly pleased that William Hill has been able to complete
the project on time, within budget and to a good standard of
finish."
William Hill Builders is currently completing work on Keyworth
Football Club pavilion, a new Territorial Army building in
Bilborough and high-design private properties in Nottingham city
and Normanton-on-the-Wolds.
