Worcestershire manufacturing firm Dortrend International are
among the sponsors at this year's National Association of
Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit's (NAPICU) conference in York
on 9th/10th September.
The firm, which specialises in developing anti-ligature
products, has been working with the mental health sector for many
years and the protection and safety of those in need of psychiatric
care is central to the business' objectives.
This is the first year Dortrend have had a presence at NAPICU,
and they will be the first company to showcase both ant-ligature
and anti-bacterial products.
Dortrend International manufacture anti-ligature door and window
handles, locks and hinges which are used in mental health hospitals
and psychiatric prisons to combat the issue of patient/inmate
suicide.
Philip Dean, Managing Director of Dortrend International said
"We are very pleased to be among the sponsors at this year's event,
and playing a part in helping to raise the issue of safety in
Psychiatric Intensive Care Units.
"The use of anti -ligature door and window fittings within
Mental Health Units has increased dramatically since the beginning
of this decade, and preventing self harm is a high priority in
these institutions.
"Mental health professionals have rightly demanded high quality
products that are fit for purpose."
The theme of this year's conference is 'Improving the Patient's
Experience' and ensuring vulnerable patients feel safe and
comfortable is key to Dortrend when manufacturing their
products.
"Modern mental health units do not want door fittings that have
an institutional appearance, as this would detract from the general
ambience of the building.
"Anti-ligature handles need to be designed so they are as
unobtrusive as possible but are securely fitted to the door using
concealed or tamperproof fixings" continued Mr. Dean.
NAPICU is a multi disciplinary, clinician lead organisation
committed to the development of psychiatric intensive care and low
secure services primarily in the UK.
This year's conference features a detailed programme of
speakers, Team of the Year, Dragons Den, and a variety of Trust
Stalls.
The event will be the 15th conference held by NAPICU.
