Churchfields Farmhouse Ice Cream win two fine food Oscars

Churchfields Farmhouse Ice Cream has won another two awards to add to their phenomenal collection.

The Salwarpe-based ice cream producer has been honoured with prestigious 'Gold Star' Great Taste awards for both their Worcestershire Plum and Orange with Grand Marnier flavour products.

The Great Taste Awards organised by the Guild of Fine Food is the acknowledged benchmark of speciality food and drink and considered to be the equivalent of an Oscar for producers.

To enter the awards Churchfields Farmhouse Ice Cream had to supply sample products for the three London-based judging panels which comprise chefs, restaurant critics, food writers and other industry experts. All the tasting is blind so no one is influenced by marketing concepts such as attractive packaging and presentation for example.

Well known for their ice cream and their unique 'cow to cornet' success story, Churchfields have a plentiful supply of fresh milk from their herd of pedigree cows at their adjoining dairy farm, so the ingredients they use are literally on-tap.

Gillian Kerton manages the ice cream production aspect of the business as her father Michael Davies runs the diary farm, which has been in his family for generations.

With a strong empathy towards farmers and food growers, Churchfields are committed to using local produce based on seasonality. With the soft fruit season fast approaching their new Damson and Sloe Gin flavour ice cream should be making its debut very soon.

Mrs Kerton says: "Our county has so much wonderful produce to boast about, the late summer soft fruits such as damson and plums are bursting with flavour and with the season being so short it's nice to capture these flavours all year round by including them in our ice cream."

Churchfields are currently experiencing a welcome increase in demand for their products, as last year's wet summer took its toll on their order book. With its customer base spreading throughout the length and breadth of the West Midlands the company is thriving.

"The two Great Taste Awards that we have received differentiates us from other producers and sets us apart from our competitors. But more importantly it is a seal of approval so the consumer knows they are buying great tasting 'natural' food with no artificial flavours and additives:" adds Mrs Kerton.
