Traders in the markets area of Lincoln have been enjoying a
Summer bonanza thanks to the city's newest attraction - a
beach!
Lincoln Business Improvement Group (Lincoln BIG) today revealed
that its decision to bring a flavour of the seaside to the
heart of the city, is proving to be a winning move.
Lincoln BIG events and promotions manager Michael Armstrong said
the 12 metres by nine metres beach - made up of 30
tonnes of real sand from the Lincolnshire coast and surrounded
by stripey deckchairs, giants children's games and a couple of
colourful fairground rides - is a real crowdpuller.
It is also the star of the show in a holiday
programme packed with fun, including Punch & Judy shows,
go-karting sessions and music, dance and circus skills
workshops.
But parents and their youngsters are not the only ones
benefiting from The Beach, which was opened by Skegness' Jolly
Fisherman. Mr Armstrong said it has also put a big smile
on the faces of local shopkeepers and cafe owners.
"The Business Improvement Group aims to support local traders in
any way it can and several business owners have already told
us that the beach is encouraging people to stay in the Sincil
Street and High Street areas for longer and to spend more
money in their stores and cafes," said Mr Armstrong.
The Beach, which will stay in Lincoln until September 5, has
been partly-financed by support from the European Regional
Development Fund.
