A Wolverhampton GP has scooped the top prize in a competition
run by Life Science organisation MedilinkWM.
Dr Nazir of Newbridge Surgery on the Tettenhall Road in
Wolverhampton collected his prize, an Apple iPhone, from
MedilinkWM's Projects and Knowledge Management Controller, Awen
Clement, after taking part in the organisation's Mobile Apps survey
of more than 250 GPs which explored just how mobile app-ready GPs
across the country are.
"According to our survey, 76 percent of GP's think that mobile
apps have a role to play in reducing demand on the NHS, and 72
percent would welcome mobile apps that help them track patients'
response to treatment," explained Awen.
Chris Dyke, Connectivity Director at MedilinkWM, added:
"Statistics estimate in the region of 4.5 billion mobile phone apps
will be downloaded worldwide this year, with approximately 1500
different apps within the medical section of the Apple App store
alone.
"Mobile apps in the healthcare sector, and specifically for GPS,
are still very much a fledgling industry. MedilinkWM is all about
success through collaboration, and we are shortly to expand our
collaboration activities with commercial organisations, clinicians
and academics in the mobile apps for healthcare sector, utilising
our contacts and the views about the market opportunities revealed
by our survey."
MedilinkWM is organising a series of events designed to explore
the mobile healthcare market, which launches on the 21st July with
the 'Mobile Applications Conference' at Coventry's Ricoh Arena.
"The event will give companies and individuals interested in
developing mobile applications for the medical and healthcare
markets, unprecedented access to valuable market intelligence and
research data to get them started," says Chris Dyke.
