The weakened pound and the rise in alcohol tax has led to
Warwick wine merchant Alastair MacBrayne scouring the little-known
wine regions of Spain in order to maintain quality while keeping
prices down.
Now Alastair, who runs Dorjes Wine Company from the Heathcote
Industrial Estate, has struck Spanish gold in the hidden regions
yet to be discovered by the supermarkets and major wine chains.
"Times are tough for smaller wine merchants such as myself. I
can't compete with the bulk-buying powers of supermarkets so I have
to choose the wines I sell very carefully. Spain is still an
untapped well of great wines - you just have to know where to
look," he says.
Alastair will unveil the Dorjes Wine Company latest wine list at
a special Spanish food and drink evening to be held at the
award-winning Peacock in Oxhill on the outskirts of Stratford on
Wednesday August 4.
