West Midlander Jayne Ward-Lucey took over an
ailing business and has turned it around in just a
year, despite the recession.
Medicare now boasts a fleet of vehicles, offering
friendly, no hassle service to a growing customer base in
and around the West Midlands, including Shropshire
where Jayne lives.
The company, based in Conduit Road, Norton Canes, Cannock,
now employs six staff, with more jobs likely this year as
growth continues.
Said Jayne: "I realised that in these austere times
there must be hundreds of companies just in the West
Midlands alone that do not want to be saddled with long,
complicated contracts for washroom services and equipment, so
I set about doing something about it."
Jayne resigned from her job as a well-paid national account
manager, bought Medicare with one vehicle and has had a
"bumper" first year as customers flocked to the company
because of its friendly, simplified approach to washroom
services.
"Much of our business now comes from word of mouth as
customers recommend us. We are now licensed to collect
clinical waste and we're are looking at other, allied
services," she added.
The company is also in the process of being assessed for
the quality award, ISO 9000-2008.
Washroom services have traditionally involved
long, complicated rental or lease contracts, with lots of
small print. Added Jayne: "I set out to make it easy,
especially for the growing number of cash-strapped
organisations in the West Midlands that realise they are
paying a lot of money for a comparatively small but
essential service that shouldn't stretch the budget.
They don't want to be tied down to long, costly
contracts, and they certainly don't need to be."
