The England football squad have just arrived in South Africa and
fans of the beautiful game will be hoping that 2010 will be 'our'
year.
The For those fortunate enough to be following the team, they
will experience everything South Africa has to offer first-hand but
for those whose budget doesn't allow the expense of a trip abroad,
then maybe Leamington Spa might be the answer to get a taste of
South Africa instead?
A new café attached to the Exclusive Roots shop has
opened in Leamington Spa and it will bring the South African
sunshine to Warwickshire to get shoppers in the mood for the World
Cup.
Exclusive Roots is the trading arm of 'Tabeisa' - a charity led
by Coventry University to support people from poor communities in
Africa to start their own business and social enterprise.
Since Tabeisa started, over 2000 businesses have been created
and they provide much-needed support to help businesses to
trade.
Tabeisa already has an Exclusive Roots shop in Oxford which
sells products made by the communities they support in Africa and
the new shop in Leamington Spa comes complete with a Roots Kitchen
Café.
Professor Jane Conlon, Director of Tabeisa from Coventry
University said:
"In celebration of the South Africa World Cup, our café
is themed on a South African township and uses fair-trade produce
as much as possible. Stepping into the café is really a
colourful experience and a welcome addition to our shop. I am
hoping it will bring a taste of South Africa to a small corner of
Warwickshire".
The shop and café operates under fair trade principles
and income generated through Exclusive Roots is reinvested into
Tabeisa to support the social and economic development of poor
communities in Africa.
Professor Jane Conlon added: "Our products are produced
across Africa. Most of our products are made in South Africa by
producers from disadvantaged communities many of the producers that
trade through Exclusive Roots have received business support from
Tabeisa. So by buying from our shops and our café you are
helping to support families in South Africa."
