A Tipton woman, who had been unemployed for three months after
moving to Shropshire, has found herself a new job with help from
the county's largest training provider.
Charlotte Bowater, 19, who lives in Ludlow, had been unemployed
for three months after relocating from Tipton in
Wolverhampton.
Charlotte said: "Moving to Ludlow was a challenge for me as I
didn't know anyone locally and wasn't aware of what opportunities
were available to me in this area. I also lacked in interview
skills and had very little work experience."
In February 2010, Charlotte joined a County Training programme
through the European Social Fund after being referred by Jobcentre
Plus. The programme provides people with personalised one-to-one
support, advice and guidance that they need to help overcome
barriers to work, and progress into sustainable employment.
Charlotte added: "When I came to County Training, I was really
keen to work in elderly care but wasn't sure how to go about this.
I didn't have the documents needed to conduct a Criminial Record
Bureau (CRB) check which I needed to get into this kind of work.
County Training helped to support me by putting me on an eight day
care course, getting my CRB documents in place and put me on mock
interviews to improve my interview skills."
In April, Charlotte successfully applied for a full time
position as Care Assistant at Churchill Nursing Home in Ludlow and
started work.
Councillor Steve Charmley, Portfolio Holder for Culture and
Leisure, said: "Through the advice and support provided by
County Training, Charlotte has been able to pursue her career
ambition and find work close to her new home enabling her to
contribute to her local community."
