The drpgroup have presented a cheque to Macmillan Cancer Support
at the group's 30th anniversary gala dinner held at Spring Grove
House in the grounds of West Midlands Safari Park. The
drptechnicalservices team raised the money for Macmillan by
completing the gruelling three peaks challenge which entails
climbing Snowdon, Scafell Pike and Ben Nevis the UK's tallest
mountains.
The team started the challenge at 8am on Saturday 8th May as
they began the long climb to the top off the UK's highest mountain,
Ben Nevis. By the early afternoon they were stood on 6 feet of snow
at the mountain's summit. Following the descent, the team were
driven to Scafell Pike, The highest peak in England where, because
of the travel between climbs, they ascended in darkness. With only
head torches to guide their way and increasingly dangerous climbing
conditions caused by loose rock and shale on the mountainside, the
team reached the summit. After descending the Pike in equally
difficult conditions, the team were then driven to Snowdon, Wales'
highest mountain where the final and most gruelling climb began. On
the morning of the 9th, the team reached the summit, unfurling a
specially made drpgroup 30th anniversary flag to commemorate their
achievement.
The technical services team managed to raise £4,000 pounds
for the charity through donations from friends family and generous
corporate sponsorship from both Thomas Cook and Fly:Be.
drptechnicalservices operations director Russell Perks, who chose
Macmillan to be the beneficiaries of the team's climb as a charity
very close to his heart, presented the cheque to Kelly Whitehouse,
Fundraising Manager for Macmillan Cancer Support, on behalf of his
team.
Kelly Whitehouse commented, "What Russell and the guys have
achieved here will make an enormous difference to the lives of
cancer patients not just in the local area but nationally as well.
Having the determination to get out there and do something like
this is fantastic and I would like to thank the whole drpteam on
behalf of Macmillan."
