Willmott Dixon Group remains one of the UK's greenest companies
according to the Sunday Times Green List. Finishing 6th our of 60
companies on the list, the position reflects the company's progress
in the past 12 months, including diverting 85 per cent of site
waste away from landfill sites.
The ranking comes just months after the company's Midland office
received the award for 'Most Sustainable Constructor' at the West
Midlands Constructing Excellence Awards.
Peter Owen, Managing Director of Willmott Dixon's construction
office in the Midlands was understandably proud of the company's
achievement: "A positive green score of 80% shows our staff feel
environmental commitments are at the heart of everything we do.
They are aware of our green policy and view us as leading the way
in our approach to environmental management. All our employees
think green and understand why we even put stickers near light
switches and recycling points - they really do get it.
"We are involved with some of the country's most environmentally
friendly construction projects and it's important for everyone to
realise we are a firm that practices what it preaches. Our success
as a business and our top ten ranking prove being green can enhance
business success and we will continue to pursue our own green
agenda."
After keeping 85% of waste out of landfill in 2009, Willmott
Dixon is on target to raise this figure to 100% within two years.
It also has a 2012 target to become CO2 neutral by dramatically
reducing emissions through improved energy efficiency and its
Sustainable Transport Policy.
The Green List is now in its third year and involves a detailed
assessment of an organisation's environmental performance. It
considers its environmental policies, systems, controls and
performance metrics such as energy consumption, waste production,
recycling and carbon footprint.
Uniquely the awards ask employees about their organisation's
environmental performance and standards, making it possible to
identify companies that have ensured their environmentally focussed
corporate culture, policies and procedures have filtered down to
the shop floor.
