A Warwickshire company which makes environmentally friendly
graffiti and chewing gum removal products for local authorities and
the transport industry has found a new market in Russia - home to
some of the most impressive underground systems in the world.
Delta AG, based in The Butts, Warwick, specialises in a range of
innovative and ecologically sound cleaning products for removing
graffiti and chewing gum from public transport, streets and public
buildings. The company was created 15 years ago by managing
director David Francis who wanted to build up the product range
using his background as an industrial chemist.
This range caught the eye of those responsible for keeping the
Moscow and St Petersburg underground systems graffiti-free and they
contacted Delta AG about supplying them with their products. As the
company had no experience of the Russian marketplace, it turned to
UK Trade & Investment for help and advice last year.
The company, which employs four people, enrolled on the Passport
to Export programme which gives new exporters the training,
planning and ongoing support they need to succeed overseas and
experts on Russia were able to advise the company on how best to
proceed. Since then, Delta AG has also taken steps towards doing
business in both Germany and the USA. UK Trade & Investment has
carried out a market study in Germany and given assistance on
exporting to the USA.
Support available through Passport to Export includes a free
export health check, attendance at an export workshop, assistance
in formulating an international trade strategy and matched funding
to help implement this strategy, quality training and mentoring
advice and access to the full range of UK Trade & Investment
services.
Although Delta AG has only recently started to supply products
to its new Russian clients, the company estimates that its new
found export markets will help to increase export sales from ten
per cent of its turnover to double that figure.
Managing director David Francis said: "UK Trade & Investment
was helpful in the extreme. We had never dealt with Russian firms
before so were grateful for all the help and guidance they were
able to give us.
"We really hope that Russia is going to be a key market for us
and with the knowledge we now have, we can go on and do more
business with clients there and in other parts of the world. We
would hope that the USA especially will open up lots of new avenues
for us."
International trade adviser Malcolm Vaughan, based at Coventry
and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce, said: "Delta AG are an
excellent example of a company making the best use of their
specialisation. They really deserve their success."
