Browne Jacobson is to offer full barrister pupillages for the
first time in response to growing demand for its in-house advocacy
services. The firm's specialist team of barristers and high court
advocates are experienced in all civil, criminal and regulatory
matters.
A pupillage is the final stage of training for a barrister and
will be completed under the authority of Fiona Butler, head of the
firm's Advocacy Unit, who was registered as a pupil supervisor last
year.
The firm's application to become an approved pupillage training
organisation was approved in June by the Bar Standards Board and
the firm's first placement will be advertised in September
2010 on the Pupillage Portal website: www.pupillages.com.
Pupillages have traditionally been offered through Chambers but
under the Access to Justice Act 2000 law firms were authorised to
host full pupillages.
Fiona Butler commented: "We are delighted to be awarded the
accreditation. It means we are one of only a handful of law firms
in the country to offer a full-time pupillage scheme.
"The firm's Advocacy unit has grown four fold since 2003 and
becoming a pupillage provider will help to enhance our service to
