When Desi Sweets, a chain of asian sweet shops, was approached
by Accent on Training to undertake free training to improve
customer service skills, general manager Hardeep Singh was eager to
make the best use of the opportunity.
The training, backed by the West Midlands Leaders Board's and
Skills Funding Agency's regional European Social Fund programme,
aims to deliver support to local businesses that would benefit from
skills development through flexible work-based training.
Owners of the successful Desi Sweet chain and restaurant
specialising in asian cuisine, and their staff have successfully
undertaken National Vocational Qualifications in Customer Services
Level 1, and are interested in continuing their training
further.
Hardeep Singh, general manager of Desi Sweets, said: "The
training was invaluable and all who took the Level 1 found it had a
really positive effect on their work.
"It is important for businesses to deliver a good level of
service to customers and in a recession customer loyalty can be the
difference between businesses prospering or going under. I am very
aware of this and am incredibly grateful that my business has been
given a boost in such an important area."
Sadie Summers, Accent on Training assessor, said: "Desi Sweets
has been really successful in the training courses, Mr Singh
recognised the importance of delivering good customer services and
took advantage of this great opportunity that we can provide to
local small-and medium-sized businesses in the area.
"Those who took the training found it a really beneficial and
worthwhile undertaking, and all found that their customer service
levels improved."
Roger Phillips, acting chairman of the West Midlands Leaders
Board, said: "Many people think that training is something you do
before you enter the workplace, but continuing to develop your
skills is a vital part in developing both yourself and your
career."
