A local business is supporting the government-led initiative to
employ apprentices.
Red Squared, a commercial catering and laundry equipment
business based at the Sir Frank Whittle Business Centre in Rugby,
say the programme has been a success to date. The company, which is
a nominated supplier to some of the world's largest hotel groups,
took on Georgia Fenwick-Wilson a month ago and haven't looked
back.
Jason Bretherton, director and partner at Red Squared, said:
"We've been doing really well throughout the recession but we know
there are a lot of people struggling to find work. Hiring an
apprentice is our way of giving back to the community and helping a
young person find a way into work.
"Georgia has been with us for just over a month and we're
already seeing results. She started in April for a year-long
apprenticeship and, if things continue as they are, we're hopeful
that she'll stay on with us long afterwards."
Georgia said: "I was determined to get some hands on experience
in the workplace and so I joined the Heart of England Training
(HOET) scheme. They helped me find work with Red Squared. I've been
with them a month now and I've already learnt a lot about the
business."
Cllr John Appleton, Warwickshire County Council's Support
Portfolio Holder for Economy, said: "Apprenticeships play a crucial
part in the country's economic growth and are a great way for
companies to bring fresh, innovative ideas into a company. Young
people can be overlooked in the jobs market but they often bring
the most passion and enthusiasm to the job. They're quick to pick
up key skills and understand the company's culture. "
