Dance4, the East Midlands flagship dance organisation, has
revealed plans for its new multi-million pound base in
Nottingham.
Dance4 has announced that it is use Rotterdam-based architects
GROUP A to design the new building, which will be part of the new
Sneinton Market and the catalyst for regeneration in the area's
Eastside.
The 0.37 acre derelict site in Brook Street is set to become of
regional, national and international significance, providing world
class facilities for Dance4 and other creative industries.
The project is being led by Hockley-based Dance4, which has
entered into an agreement for a lease on the site with Nottingham
City Council. Funding for the feasibility of the development has
been awarded by Greater Nottingham Partnership and Arts Council
England. The project has been earmarked to start on site in January
2013.
Paul Russ, chief executive of Dance4, said: "This will be a 21st
century workspace enabling Nottingham to celebrate its creativity
on the international stage.
"This is a pivotal development at the heart of the
regeneration of the east side of Nottingham, and we are really
excited about the possibilities which will be created by this
building - for Dance4, for the city - and for the region."
"This is a huge challenge for the organisation, but we will work
hard to raise the funds we need to bring about this crucial
regeneration for Sneinton."
The new centre is to house choreographic work space, creative
industry space, a café, meeting rooms and an area for
training and education activities. It would also be the new home
for Dance4, one of nine regional dance centres.
Architects from GROUPA will be visiting Nottingham in June to
launch a detailed public consultation process which will run
throughout the summer. Dance4 will be consulting residents and
businesses through a programme of activities.
