The drpgroup's support services team recently spent a day
landscaping the garden and green space of local school, The
Fairfield Community Primary School.
Following recent remodelling of the Worcester based school, the
garden area was left unfinished and with funds unavailable to carry
out the necessary work, the drpteam stepped in. The team sourced
donations of plants, compost and equipment from local businesses
and gave up their time to complete the project.
The Fairfield Community Primary School sits in one of the
poorest catchment areas in Worcester making it difficult to source
funds to complete the project. The garden was to be both an
environmental enrichment for pupils and a learning aid, giving
children the chance to look after the garden themselves.
The drpteam used their contacts in the local area to acquire
donations on behalf of the School with Wilkinson's donating vital
tools needed to complete the project and Webbs of Wychbold
supplying 10 bags of compost free of charge. Webbs of Wychbold also
offered a generous discount on all other plants the team bought
there.
The team designed, built and planted a low maintenance but high
impact garden for pupils to enjoy ensuring that the plants chosen
would provide some colour all year round. The garden was remodelled
in one day with the morning seeing the drpteam carry out the
groundwork before The Fairfield Community Primary School children
came out in the afternoon to help the team plant the garden. The
finished project now provides the school with a focal point for
science lessons, acts as a quiet place for older pupils to relax
and enjoy their break time and has inspired the creation of the
school's very own Gardening Club.
April Pearson-Myatt, drpgroup financial director, led the team
on the day and commented, "The Fairfield Community Primary School
is an extremely worthy cause and it has been fantastic for me and
my team to assist them in completing this project. Working with the
pupils has been a wonderful experience and it's great to know that
this space will help them enjoy their environment even more and
learn from it as they tend to their new garden."
