Derwent Living has appointed Suzy Brain England OBE to take over
the reigns as its new chair.
The Derby-based housing provider has appointed Suzy following
the retirement of Duncan Smith in June. Suzy has a wealth of
experience in the housing industry and has already helped to take
Berneslai Homes in Barnsley to three-star glory.
Suzy has a long and varied career in public life spanning
housing, health, benefits and helping people off welfare and into
work. She is currently the chair of a number of public sector
bodies including Berneslai Homes, Kirklees Community Healthcare
Services and The Department of Work and Pensions Decision Making
Standards Committee, to name a few.
Suzy says: "I am delighted to be joining the Derwent Living
board. In my opinion, it is not just any board, but it is an
extremely important vision to deliver social good through the
commercial activity of selling, renting and sharing in the
ownership of people's homes. I have a great deal of
experience in chairing boards and a significant amount of
experience in social housing. My aim is to ensure that all the
boards I work with are committed to the continuous improvement of
themselves as individuals and as part of a team so that we can
continue to make sure that the services we provide simply get
better and better.
"I also wish to use my three-star experience from Berneslai
Homes to take Derwent Living to the same heights. A good
organisation for residents is a good organisation for staff and I
will support the chief executive and the executive team as we aim
to continuously improve the company as a landlord and
employer."
Peter McCormack, chief executive of Derwent Living said: "I am
looking forward to working with Suzy and I'm confident that the
experience that she will bring to the board will help us in our
vision to continue to provide a quality service to our customers.
As a company we are always striving to improve not only the homes
we provide for our customers, but also to create safer communities
where people want to live. I know that Suzy is passionate about
working with the executive team and communicating with our
residents to support this vision."
