Lawyers at a Derby firm are set to raise money to help pay for
the care of children who have been diagnosed with brain tumours
after choosing the Liberty Rose Trust as their charity of the
year.
Robinsons Solicitors, in St James Court, Friar Gate, chose the
charity after hearing about Derbyshire youngster Liberty Rose Finn,
who was diagnosed with optic chaism glioma - a tumour which coiled
around her optical nerve - when she was just eight months old.
Tests showed that the tumour was not malignant, but it was still
growing - threatening her eyesight. Liberty - known as Libby -
underwent chemotherapy, which shrunk the tumour, and miraculously
was given the all-clear last year.
Although Libby, now three, has a clean bill of health, her
parents have set up the Liberty Rose Trust, which will raise
awareness, support children and their families and fund research
into childhood tumours in order to make a difference to the lives
of youngsters across the UK.
The charity was launched at a party held last month (May) and
attended by families, medical staff and other guests, including
Sarah Nash, head of Robinsons' private client department.
Sarah said: "The launch party was upbeat but also very
emotional, and everyone had a story to tell about the effect brain
tumours have on their children's lives.
"Libby's story is truly inspirational and I hope the money that
Robinsons raises this year will help the Trust to make a
difference."
Libby's father, Carl, of Station Street, Castle Gresley, said:
"We want to thank Robinsons for choosing the Liberty Rose Trust as
their charity of the year.
"Hopefully together we can all make a difference to these
children's lives."
