For the 6th year running, the Birmingham office of Drivers Jonas
Deloitte has conquered the St Basils Walk 2010, raising
£1,000 for the Midlands based charity.
This year, ten intrepid souls from the Brindleyplace based
office decided to forgo the lure of a lazy Saturday to traipse 28
miles through prime Clarkson country. The 2010 route began in
Chipping Camden before taking a meandering course through the
picturesque Cotswolds, taking in varied sights including Devil's
Tower, Jackdaws 'Castle' and field after field filled with
horses.
With temperatures more akin to Monaco than Colmore Row, the
walkers battled on through the relentlessly hilly course, fighting
dehydration, blisters, blisters on blisters, and the burning desire
to sit in a beer garden and be done with it! Despite the
adversities, every member of the team completed the walk (without
resorting to the 'rescue bus of shame'), with the 28 mile course
completed in around 10 hours 30 minutes.
Team member Simon Zargar commented: "The St Basils Walk 2010 was
a real test of our team fitness particularly as temperatures on the
day topped 24 degrees. It was a demanding challenge but a great
deal of fun with supportive colleagues and 150 equally enthused
teams. Our efforts have helped raise desperately needed funds for
St Basils which will go towards preventing youth homelessness in
the region."
All the money raised from the walk goes to St Basils, which
works with young people to enable them to find and keep a home, to
develop their confidence, skills and opportunities and to prevent
homelessness. Next year's walk takes place at Cader Idris in Mid
Wales and, subject to blister removal, Drivers Jonas Deloitte will
be back in force to conquer the Welsh mountains once more.
