The latest manufacturing best practice workshops take place in
the West Midlands next week, with the overriding aim of helping
local companies boost efficiency, reduce waste and increase their
profits.
Led by the Manufacturing Advisory Service - West Midlands
(MAS-WM), the next trio of interactive seminars focus on Value
Stream Mapping and ensuring firms are in a position to identify key
issues affecting their businesses.
The events, which will be delivered by industry experts PEDA
Consultants and Oneflow, will provide a hands-on insight into
making sure the right processes are put in place, whilst stressing
the importance of taking an organisation-wide approach to problem
solving.
Simon Griffiths, chief executive of MAS-WM, believes this
calendar of activity is something that local manufacturers should
take advantage of:
"We all talk about the importance of retaining and winning new
business, but, in today's competitive climate, it is equally vital
for businesses to look at the way they operate and how they can cut
costs by becoming more productive.
"The best practice workshops we run all year provide an
introduction to a number of key problem solving techniques and are
delivered by experts who have significant experience of working
within the sector.
"Applying this initial learning has helped previous delegates to
secure substantial business improvements and we expect this to
continue."
Ideally suited for owners and senior managers, the morning
workshops will be held at three locations across the region,
including Stourbridge, Coventry and Cannock on the 18th, 19th and
20th May respectively.
Value Stream Mapping is regarded as an essential business
improvement tool and encourages businesses to look at the complete
cycle, from receiving the order and sorting the materials, to
manufacture and on time delivery.
It takes a look at the waste spotters guide and also illustrates
the need to carefully assess all process changes to ensure that
decisions aren't being made for decision's sake.
PEDA Consultants' Peter Hales concluded: "These workshops are
all about giving companies an initial taste of different processes
that can improve their business with the view to starting them on a
journey that could also benefit from in-depth MAS assistance."
A different issue is tackled each month, with future events set
to cover visual management, effective communication, sourcing and
getting more from your equipment.
