Celebrating 250 years in business, King Sturge was joined by
former Welsh Guard, Simon Weston OBE, as they rallied the troops
for its 1760 anniversary charity appeal.
Raising funds for The Royal British Legion with specific
emphasis on the Selly Oak military trauma ward, Simon Weston spoke
in front of the 65 strong team about his own experiences, the work
of The Royal British Legion and the importance of supporting the
armed forces and their families.
Simon Weston knows only too well the need for dedicated military
hospitals, having been one of the worst injured soldiers to come
back alive from the Falklands conflict, surviving with 46% burns
after the ship he was serving on, the RFA Sir Galahad was bombed in
Bluff Cove.
For those who had not heard Simon speak before, his humour,
presence and amazing courage in the face of adversity provided
inspiration and a real boost to the team's determination to beat
their fundraising targets for the local charity. He said a big
thank you for all that King Sturge were doing now and all they
planned to do.
"We really couldn't have asked for a better start to the
campaign," says Ian Cornock, Partner in Charge of the Birmingham
office of at King Sturge. "Simon Weston is such a motivating force.
He's incredibly entertaining and charismatic and really
brought to life why we need to give both our time and money to
supporting The Royal British Legion.
"So many of the team came up and commented on what a fantastic
speaker he was and how inspired they felt going forward in raising
money and lending support. We want to make a real difference with
this appeal and hope we can get on board our industry, clients and
staff to achieve the targets set."
As part of King Sturge's 250th anniversary 1760 charity
appeal, the property consultants will look to raise £250,000
by the end of 2010 for two national charities - Orchid and The
Children's Trust - and a number of selected local charities.
Initiatives planned by the Birmingham office include a St Basils
Charity Walk, a relay bike ride across the King Sturge offices, a
classic sports car reliability run, The King Sturge Triathlon and
support for the Poppy Appeal.
Sue Smart, Midlands' regional fundraising manager for The Royal
British Legion said, "King Sturge's support is most welcomed. They
have pledged both their money and their time which is hugely
beneficial. Often time is what we need, from volunteers to help
with collecting, delivering boxes, banking, counting or just
general admin."
