Occasionally employees leave a company under a cloud - but one
new starter at a Leamington travel firm has definitely joined under
one.
Rachel Emerson moved to the Travel Management Group in the
middle of the volcanic ash cloud crisis, to begin work as an
account manager at the group's TMG Events division.
In her first few weeks in the job, she has also helped the
45-strong TMG team to transport Fulham Football Club's players,
management, VIPs and many supporters to Hamburg for the Europa Cup
final, along with dealing with the ongoing British Airways cabin
crew dispute.
"I think it's fair to say it's been a baptism of fire, but I'm
loving it at the moment," the 28-year-old said.
"I've already had unique experiences - such as being involved
with the fallout of the ash cloud and then helping with the trips
to Germany, first for the semi-final of the cup and then actually
travelling across for the final.
"Now there's a lot happening because of the dispute at BA, so
it's been a bit non-stop for the group. But the team has been
really supportive and there's been a real will here to make sure we
do the best for our customers."
Rachel started her career in Paris before returning to the UK to
complete an MSc in Events at Leeds Metropolitan University.
Most recently she was worked for another independent events firm
in the Midlands, before making the move to the Dormer Place-based
group.
Ian Currington, a director at TMG, said: "Rachel is very skilled
in her field and has developed strong experience during the last
few years.
"The first few weeks have been a real test for everyone in our
industry, but Rachel has settled in straight away and been a
valuable member of the team during a very busy time.
"She has a lot to bring to TMG and we're delighted that she's
joined."
