An aviation enthusiast from Tealby in Lincolnshire has won a
package of business support services worth over £8,000 to
help him set up a new Internet television channel.
Adrian Campbell, founder and Marketing Director of PlanesTV, and
four other candidates pitched their business ideas to a panel of
judges at a Dragons' Den-style event at Lincoln City Football
Ground.
Sitting on the panel was Managing Director of The Women's
Business Clubs, Kelly Stevens; James Hazel from McKinnells
Solicitors; the Managing Director of DnA Group, Dean Hyde; Gusto
Group Chairman Steff Wright; and Director of Aspect7 Jonathan
Bowman.
Among the hopefuls to take part in the Blinc Business Den were
University of Lincoln student Sophie Bulgin, who wanted to set up a
website buying and selling second-hand university books, and
Pauline Mountain from the charity Hearts of Positive Energy (HOPE)
who wanted to develop a support service for people with heart
failure.
Meanwhile Stephen Williams and Amiee Holland pitched their idea
for an Amateur World Cup football tournament.
After listening to the judges' comments the audience voted for
who they wanted to win with Adrian gaining the most votes followed
by Katharine Armstrong-Short of Katharine Armstrong-Short Interior
Design, who presented her plans for a mural painting business.
Planes TV has been producing and selling videos and now DVDs of
international airshows for over 20 years and now Adrian and his
team want to take their business to the next level and start a
24-hour Internet aviation television station.
Adrian explained: "After 20 years we have a huge archive of
produced programmes and quality material never seen before. Just
like Google and YouTube we will make all our content free to view
and offer any seller of an aviation product a platform to promote
their product on PlanesTV free of charge by way of a video
feature.
"We will take orders for the product and pass the order to the
seller for fulfilment, taking a commission on any sales."
The prize package worth over £8,000 includes a logo and
stationery designed and printed by Ruddocks, signage, vehicle
livery or exhibition material produced by Allen Signs, 24 hours of
business mentoring by 318 Business Resource and £600 worth of
legal consultancy and advice by McKinnells Solicitors.
CEO of Blinc Nicki Gray said: "This package includes everything
you would need to set up a new business or launch a new product or
service and we would like to thank all of our sponsors.
"We'd also like to thank our entrepreneurs who were brave enough
to step into the Blinc Business Den. They had some brilliant ideas
and quality of their presentations was exceptional.
"Adrian was a thoroughly deserving winner and our judges were
very impressed by his business plan and his confident and dynamic
pitch.
"We're now looking forward to the next Blinc Business Den in
July and are already on the lookout for our next batch of brave
entrepreneurs. For more information please call Tim on 07747
