Worcestershire based recruitment agency eResponse Recruitment is
warning those hoping for a strong recovery of the job market this
year to remain cautious.
The warning follows the release of new figures from the Office
of National statistics, which are set to confuse many people by
presenting seemingly conflicting information about the state of the
current job market
The report shows that whilst the unemployment rate has
dramatically decreased, so has the number of people in full time
employment.
Managing Director of eResponse Recruitment, Paul Alekna comments
"Although it is undoubtedly a positive that unemployment figures
have fallen, this does not mean the job market is on its way to a
full recovery.
"Things are still very unstable with many people still out of
full time employment. I would advise anyone searching for
employment to keep attacking the job market hard as unfortunately
it doesn't look like the numbers of jobs will be increasing
soon".
The fall in unemployment has been accredited to a number of
things, one being a sharp increase in the number of students.
The number of students has risen by 98,000 which implies many
young, jobless people have either opted to remain in, or return to
education in an attempt to avoid claiming jobseekers allowance.
The public sector has also been hit particularly hard - whilst
this currently props up the jobs market, there was a fall of 61,000
in the public sector in the last quarter of 2009, and the creation
of public sector jobs looks set to grind to a halt.
The number of those working in local government has already been
shown to have fallen by the figures, and worryingly, this seems to
be the start of a public sector jobs cull which will lead to
hundreds of thousands of jobs cut from the public payroll.
All the figures point to the conclusion that the job market,
whilst very gradually recovering is still extremely weak,
unpredictable and is at serious risk of a relapse.
