Supply chain specialist TM Logistics (TML) has added its weight
to a national campaign which aims to boost drinks can
recycling habits.
Together with its customers in the can making sector,
Midlands-based TML has joined Every Can Counts, a partnership
between drink can manufacturers, the recycling industry and
leading waste management companies.
The campaign aims to encourage people to recycle more by
providing the facilities to recycle cans when they are at work
or out and about.
It is a message TML will champion nationwide, having adopted
Every Can Counts branding on five of the vehicles it uses to
deliver cans for Rexam Beverage Can Europe Ltd.
"In partnership with Rexam, we wanted to visibly demonstrate our
support for this campaign and raise awareness of the
importance of recycling," said TML's chief executive, Stephen
Taylor, who is also an active member of the Metal Packaging
Manufacturers Association - another champion of Every Can
Counts.
"Our trucks travel the length and breadth of the UK and they're
seen by thousands of people every day. By converting them into
mobile billboards, we're helping spread the Every Can Counts
message in a cost effective way and if our efforts convince
even one person to recycle more, we've achieved our goal."
It's a view shared by John Revess, VP Environmental Affairs at
Rexam Beverage Can Europe. He said: "We're committed to
reducing our overall environmental impact and we've been a
driving force behind Every Can Counts since its inception.
"Recycling a can uses up to 20 times less energy than it does to
make a new one, so recycling really does make a
difference."
Like Rexam, TML is also continually looking at ways to become
greener.
As well as introducing alternative fuels to the Rexam contract,
the company uses high cube, walk-through drawbars so it can
transport maximum quantities and reduce the total number of
journeys required.
TML also employs a range of sophisticated in-cab technologies
and vehicle tracking systems to further increase
efficiencies.
"We're proud to be supporting this campaign and we hope others
will follow our lead," added Mr Taylor. "By working in
partnership with our customers, we can help make a difference
and create a better, more sustainable future for
everyone."
TM Logistics employs over 350 people in 17 on-site operations
and warehouses across the UK. The firm ranks many top name
companies such as Bosch Thermotechnology Ltd, Crown Food UK,
Kingspan Insulation, Saint Gobain Isover and Plastic Omnium
amongst its customer portfolio.
