As the country prepares to cheer on England in this year's World
Cup, the Family Law Team at leading Worcestershire-based law firm,
Parkinson Wright who have offices in Worcester, Droitwich and
Evesham, are warning people that the World Cup Championship can
sometimes become a flashpoint for relationships.
It is not uncommon that following the World Cup, family lawyers
around the country end up dealing with relationship breakdowns that
can ultimately lead to divorce.
Peter Lewis, Head of Parkinson's Wright Family Law Team
said, "Many couples fail to interact with each other as the
only passes that occur are those on the football pitch so spouses
and partners feel neglected. Family commitments are ignored as the
life or death situation of every England game is played out.
Employers also complain of absenteeism at work during the World Cup
as people recover from drinking sessions with friends or simply
skip work to watch games. Alcohol is also never a good mix in a
relationship and can cause friction amongst partners leading to
arguments and even worse."
"We recommend that during the World Cup, that couples and
families reserve some time to spend with each other so that no one
feels neglected. Perhaps arrange some outings when England are not
playing and remember that win or lose, it is just a game and not
worth wrecking your relationship over. Just enjoy the football and
good luck England."
