The impact the emergency budget will have on Coventry and
Warwickshire was a main talking point when business leaders
assembled for a networking event in the city.
Around 70 members of Coventry and Warwickshire First attended
the annual economic seminar held by the not-for-profit organisation
at the Ricoh Arena in the Yorkshire Bank Lounge.
Leading UK economist David Tinsley, of Yorkshire and Clydesdale
Banks, was the guest speaker at the event.
Philip Costigan, partner at city law firm Band Hatton and
chairman of Coventry and Warwickshire First, said the seminar was
useful for businesses ahead of the emergency budget on June
22.
He said: "The seminar was really well attended and brought
together professionals from a mix of disciplines.
"David's specialist area of expertise is analysing and
predicting how the economy will perform and patterns of growth like
the future path of interest rates.
"He has spent time working in Government and also at the Bank of
England prior to joining Clydesdale Bank and his outlook was
probably a lot more upbeat than many expected, which is
encouraging, and his talk generated a lot questions from our
members.
"Although we are still very much in the process of settling down
following the formation of the new government and waiting to see
where the axe will fall next ahead of the emergency budget it was
really useful for businesses to listen to an economic expert and
feed in their own experiences to help gain a rounder picture of the
local and UK economies."
