Electric Installations and Maintenance
Two former classmates have joined forces to start a new business
committed to increasing the safety of electricity in the home.
Scott Palmer and Joe Bolton, both pupils at High Arcal School in
the 90s, are the driving forces behind Electrix Installations and
Maintenance, a specialist electrical contractor for the
residential, commercial and industrial markets.
The duo have already won a number of contracts with Boss Design,
Penn Golf Club and Wolf Mountain and have now set their sights on
helping homeowners come to terms with new regulation that states
any new or rewired homes have to install, in most cases, a residual
current device (RCD) to protect new or modified circuits.
Thousands of people could be affected by this legislation and
tens of lives saved and the Dudley entrepreneurs believe they may
be able to offer a cost-effective solution to installation.
"Between the two of us, we've probably installed in excess of
100 RCD protected fuse boards over the past two years so we decided
to combine our skills and contacts and launch Electrix to look at
taking advantage of the Black Country and Birmingham marketplace,"
explained Scott.
"The Residual Current Device is a safety device that switches
off electricity automatically if there is a fault. They tend to be
more sensitive than normal fuses and circuit providers and provide
added protection against an electric shock."
He continued: "Being a relatively small business compared to
some of our rivals, we are quite agile and do not have the same
overheads, which means we can offer really cost-effective prices
and free, no obligation site visits."
Over £50,000 has been invested into the business by Scott
and Joe and this has been channelled into a corporate identity, new
vans and the launch of its own website.
As part of their marketing strategy, the two NICEIC accredited
electricians are also planning to exhibit in a number of town
centres during the summer offering free advice to local shoppers
and homeowners.
Joe Bolton, who is also an approved Help the Aged contractor,
picked up the story: "We have both been apprentices and worked our
way up, learning from experienced professionals in the process.
"This has given us the skills we needed to start up our business
and we are already winning work to install new systems and securing
long-term maintenance contracts.
"We now have the opportunity to help save lives in the home and
will be doing our best to spread this message as far as we
can."
