Birmingham surveyor and Girl Guide leader Sarah Heynes is
seeking support from the city's professionals to help her with a
trip to the land of the pharaohs.
An auction, backed by Bigwood and RICS Matrics, is taking place
on Thursday June 3 at Bushwackers in Edmund Street in Birmingham
city centre to raise money for her trip.
Sarah, a surveyor at Savills Commercial in Birmingham, has been
invited to participate in a 'GOLD' project (Guiding Overseas Linked
with Development).
A six-woman team will be working with the Egyptian Federation
for Scouts and Girl Guides (EGGA) to deliver a programme of
workshops and training sessions focused on employment and
leadership skills for women aged 18-30. They will also be helping
the locals improve their English.
The trip takes place in October and Sarah will be in Egypt for a
month.
So far she has raised £880 towards the project and it is
hoped the auction - which takes place from 6pm-8.30pm - will boost
that substantially.
She needs to find around £1,600.
The auction has been organised by RICS Matrics, a networking and
support organisation attached to the Royal Institution of Chartered
Surveyors.
Items have been donated from the likes of Harvey Nichols,
Edgbaston Golf Club, Hotel du Vin, Hollywood Monster, Urban Splash,
LA Fitness and TM Lewin.
They will be auctioned by Rory Daly, from chartered surveyors
and auctioneers Bigwood, and some 'volunteer auctioneers' will also
be trying their hand, with a prize for the best on the night.
Indi Sidhu, of RICS Matrics, said: "We felt this was something
we wanted to get behind because it reaches out to a developing
nation.
"It is important that the profession supports extremely
worthwhile initiatives like this involving a fellow surveyor."
Praising the efforts of all those who have put the evening
together, Sarah said: "It is a privilege to be asked to represent
Girlguiding UK overseas and I am extremely grateful for all the
hard work and the generous donations.
"The auction night is going to be a lot of fun and I would urge
as many of the Birmingham business community as possible to come
along and take part.
"I am looking forward enormously to seeing Egypt and
contributing to the Girl Guide movement there. It is really
exciting."
She is representing Girlguiding UK and will also be involved in
a number of official visits whilst in Egypt.
