Midlands based firm Oakland International Ltd, an acknowledged
multi temperature supply chain specialist in warehousing and
logistics, is set to see energy savings in the region of 62% as
they undertake a major programme of light replacement throughout
the Company's warehousing and office complex at their Midlands HQ
in Redditch.
The project was initiated following a successful feasibility
study during which Oakland International compared existing
fluorescent and incandescent lights to the new LED lights. Set to
make a significant positive impact on the Company's overall working
environment and offering a massive reduction in energy costs, the
project will deliver operational benefits with the new LED lights
producing enhanced illumination, reduced heat gain and, due to
their extended life, offering less disruption and risk within the
warehouse owing to bulb failure.
Oakland's Strategic Development Manager and Energy Committee
Chairman, Pete Vaughan, stated: "Oakland International has a strong
tradition of investigating and implementing eco-friendly
initiatives throughout its operations, and through the Company's
Energy Committee we continue to investigate alternative processes
and methods to reduce our environmental footprint and that of our
customers".
"The installation of LED lighting will have an immediate benefit
by greatly reducing Oakland's energy consumption and enhancing the
working environment for Oakland staff with a much improved lighting
solution more akin to daylight."
An evolving technology, LED lighting is more robust with no
filament and fragile tube. The LEDs consume up to 65% less
electricity, supplying increased lumens per watt due to the bulbs'
cool burn, and emit less heat in comparison to incandescent bulbs
which emit 98 per cent of their energy as heat. Installing LEDs
will significantly reduce the firm's overall carbon footprint.
Since inception, Oakland International has maintained its
examination of green working solutions via ongoing investment in
environmental and ethical projects. Pete Vaughan added: "Oakland's
installation of an energy efficient reed bed system and on-site
sewage treatment plant uses less energy than conventional sewage
treatment methods. Investment in energy efficient chillers, as well
as recycling of all plastic, cardboard and wood, the Company also
continues to support charities who distribute short coded food
products."
Oakland International's environmental impact continues to
reduce, even though the firm has more than doubled in size and
operational scale.
