at Berryman.
Nottingham law firm Berryman has promoted commercial property
solicitors Katy Marlow and Peter Jackson to Associates.
The promotions signal Berryman's continued commitment to the
property sector, as head of the team, Adam Youatt explains: "These
two promotions are a clear sign of the firm's dedication to the
property sector and the team's ambition for sustained
growth.
"Furthermore, it reflects and builds-on the comments and ratings
the team has secured in the latest editions of the legal
profession's top directories," he says. "The Chambers 2010
Directory stated 'this dynamic Nottingham team punches above its
weight in the East Midlands', whilst The Legal 500 described us as
an 'approachable and reactive' team, with a 'first-class service
offering'."
Peter Jackson joined Berryman earlier this year from Bristol
firm Burges Salmon LLP, prior to which he trained and worked in the
East Midlands' office of Geldards LLP.
His extensive experience in the property sector spans investment
property, property finance, development, healthcare and corporate
real estate. Since joining Berryman, client projects have included
working with the Berryman team acting for a local authority on a
redevelopment scheme in the region which received substantial grant
funding from the local regional development agency; the scheme is
for major regeneration and includes new housing, infrastructure and
a retail superstore. Other instructions include the letting of a
substantial local motor dealership and providing support to
Berryman's corporate team, acting for a range of banks.
A specialist in property acquisitions and disposals and landlord
and tenant matters, Katy Marlow joined Berryman in 2008. She has
extensive knowledge of the specialist area of pension trust
property acquisitions, and over the last year has completed a high
number of pension-related purchases for a range of key clients. In
recent months, Katy has worked on a wide variety of general
property deals including the purchase of new offices in Nottingham
for a local recruitment specialist, the letting of commercial
premises on Nottingham Science Park, the purchase of a fully let
office business park for an investor and the completion of an
office lease in London for an international telecommunications
company. She has a strong track record in and focus on businesses
operating in the life sciences and technology industries.
"Whilst not denying that the market is still very difficult and
fragile, some property development activity is coming back into the
market and for Berryman, property instructions continue to come
through," adds Adam Youatt.
"The Property team - which has in fact recruited three lawyers
in the last 12 months and now has 14 fee earners - has several
substantial deals due for completion over the coming months, and
has already received several new property development instructions
this year, some of which are for schemes where construction will
start before the end of 2010."
Berryman is a Midlands' law firm based in Nottingham, which
provides an extensive portfolio of legal services within four key
areas: Business Services, Property & Construction, Insurance
Services and Private Client.
