Super fast broadband is helping to attract hi-tech businesses to
Nottingham, according to developers at No.1 Nottingham Science Park
where a private fibre optic connection has been installed.
The developer of the award-winning building, Blueprint, reports
that all four tenants at the iconic building have signed up to a
deal arranged with Virgin, enabling download and upload speeds of
up to 1Gb per second - 20 times faster than a typical domestic
broadband connection.
With innovative businesses increasingly reliant on high-speed
data connections, Blueprint says very-high-speed Internet access is
now crucial to attract forward thinking, growing companies to
Nottingham.
John Long, development director at Blueprint, said: "No.1
Nottingham Science Park was built with creative and high technology
firms in mind, and these rely on a reliable and fast Internet
connections to be able to operate successfully.
"Fibre optic broadband is the future for broadband, and we are
increasingly going to see companies demanding it as a critical
aspect of their property requirements, ranking alongside things
like comfort cooling and car parking. We're beginning to see it
happen at No.1 so we are delighted to have made the investment now,
ensuring that our tenants are catered for, now and in the
future."
The speed of the connection is constant and symmetrical, so
unlike traditional broadband connections, it is not affected by how
busy the network is, whether the data is incoming or outgoing, or
who else is online. The Virgin service at No.1 is administered by
Blueprint and Nottingham based IT consultancy, Little Fish.
