With Chancellor Alistair Darling announcing a green investment fund worth £2bn in the budget last month, office supplies company Fenns is urging local businesses to think about investing in their own green future.

The office supplies company is calling for local businesses of all sizes to go green in the office, as purchasing environmentally friendly products and solutions and practicing greener habits and thinking "green" overall can reduce an organisation's environmental footprint while saving it money and resources.Offices are renowned for their wasteful practices, reliance on paper and poor recycling figures so Fenns has as a result introduced a full range of over 2500 green office products and services which are graded according to recycled content and other green accreditations.

Fenns Sales Director, Martin Harris comments: "We believe that business profitability and environmental responsibility go hand in hand. We strive to achieve this in both principle and practice and have developed two basic principles; wherever we do business, we will operate with respect and sensitivity to the environment and we also encourage our employees to take individual steps to protect and restore the environment. Our environmental policy doesn't stop with the products we supply, deliveries are supplied in cardboard boxes that are 100% recycled and small deliveries are sent in jiffy envelopes to save on weight, fuel and space. In 2009 alone 505 tons of cardboard were recycled from our central warehouse.

These are all measures that other business locally could look at and we can work with businesses to advise them on initiatives available whether they are a large or small office. We can supply monthly reports showing products purchased that are green, together with a carbon footprint report showing number of orders/deliveries and even provide a web banner with a monthly green purchase score to encourage employees to get on board with the green initiatives.

Cost reduction & the environment go hand in hand especially when you reduce supply chain and improve ordering process. Delivering accountability, control & efficiency for our customers means a win - win for cost saving and the environment."
