A new green housing development in the Meadows area of
Nottingham is donating £1,800 to a local community group -
the proceeds from selling old railings around the site.
The money from the Green Street in The Meadows project is going
to the Meadows Partnership Trust.
Trust general manager Jacky Dobson says: "The money will be
split between The Meadows Youth Club for activities that they find
difficult to fund and our Youth Shadow Board to fund youth
activities of their choice."
Karl White, youth worker at The Meadows Youth Club, said: "We
are so pleased and excited to hear that our youth club was selected
to receive this windfall. This money will make so much difference
to our club, i.e. being able to access activities such as swimming,
theatre visits, sign language classes, at a greatly reduced price
and in some cases free."
Chairperson of the Youth Shadow Board, Liam Whitby, said: "We
are planning to invest the money in Medfest as in July there is a
"Kids Day", which we will be organising."
Work on the £8m housing development by specialist
developer Blueprint is well underway. The 38 home scheme, which is
being built by contractor Lovell, has the backing of the Meadows
Partnership Trust.
Peter Conboy, a development director at Blueprint, said:
Ensuring our projects provide opportunities and benefits for the
local community is a cornerstone of Blueprint's approach to
sustainable development. We are delighted to be able to facilitate
this donation to youth activities in the Meadows area.
Lovell operations manager John Shuttleworth said: "Making a
difference to the communities where we work is very important to us
and we were delighted to be able to join forces with Blueprint to
help out The Meadows Youth Club and the Youth Shadow Board through
this donation."
The show home will be ready for viewing soon, and the first 13
homes are scheduled to be ready for occupation by autumn 2010, with
the scheme completed by spring 2011. Reservations can be made
now.
Based in Nottingham, developer Blueprint has been responsible
for two other major schemes on brownfield sites - the multi-award
winning No.1 Nottingham Science Park, off University Boulevard, and
a new complex in Leicester called Phoenix Square which comprises
homes, office studios, independent arts cinema and café bar.
Both are iconic developments reflecting Blueprint's values for high
standards of design and sustainability.
Green Street's building contractor, Lovell, is an experienced
national house-building company and housing regeneration specialist
