Nathan Furniture has been awarded a Design Guild Mark by The
Worshipful Company of Furniture Makers which recognises the finest
designers in the country.
Nathan has sites in Long Eaton and Bobber's Mill, Nottingham.
The firm's new Citadel 21 chair is one of only 20 designs to be
awarded this accolade. The Mark is awarded for excellence in design
use of materials, manufacture and function.
Nathan is a name synonymous with quality living, dining room and
occasional cabinet furniture. The company was originally
established in 1916 by Barnett Nathan - a furniture maker of
Russian origin and now stands alongside the great British furniture
brands with its ever expanding product collections. Nathan's
is still independently owned and its seven different ranges are
sold through a network of over 200 quality independent
retailers.
Jonathan Hindle, Chairman of the Design Guild Mark judges
commented "The Worshipful Company of Furniture Makers introduced
the Guild Mark to reward the work of the finest furniture designers
working in volume production in Britain." The Worshipful Company of
Furniture Makers is the Livery Company of the City of London for
the British furniture industry.

Citadal 21 collection was only launched by Nathan to the trade
in January this year. This modern vintage collection is a retro
influenced teak living and dining cabinet collection is a modern
interpretation of a model from the Nathan archive, re-mastered for
today. This collection is named after an original 1963 Nathan range
called 'Citadel' which had a classic Scandinavian look. Citadel 21
was designed by furniture designer Anne Sewell, a Nottingham Trent
University graduate, who comments: "It is a great honor to be
recognised it this way and shows furniture created for the
mainstream can have excellent design credentials."
John Parcell, Sales Director at Nathan added: "The whole team at
Nathan is delighted. This is the first Guild Mark we've achieved
and it is great to be acknowledged with such a prestigious award.
Guild Marks not only recognise quality design but also helps
consumers appreciate the quality and construction of the furniture
they are buying."
