Nottingham law firm Berryman pledged its support of the work of
the Legacy Trust set up by double-Olympic champion Dame Kelly
Holmes, which helps and nurtures the best young sports talent, at
the charity's annual conference, this year held in Nottingham for
the first time.
The firm was sole sponsor of a networking event on the first of
the two-day conference event at Nottingham's Trent Bridge Cricket
Ground, which was attended by top athletes from the Olympics,
Paralympics and World Championships, including Dame Kelly Holmes,
Olympic rowing medallist Sarah Winckless, and Extreme in-line
skating world champion Jenna Downing.
England and Nottinghamshire cricketer Ryan Sidebottom and Notts
County Cricket Club chief executive Derek Brewer were amongst the
local sporting greats at the event.
The two-day DKH Legacy Trust National Conference, hosted by Dame
Kelly Holmes, was attended by more than 100 delegates with a
line-up of speakers and sporting representatives from organisations
including the British Olympic Association, Sport England, the
English Institute of Sport, the Central Council for Physical
Recreation, SportsAid, SkillsActive and thirty-two national
Governing bodies.
Of the networking event and Berryman's involvement, the firm's
partner Ed Wright said: "The work and focus of the DKH Legacy Trust
is an incredible platform from which to support, nurture and
encourage all youngsters with a sporting ability, irrespective of
their background or personal circumstances. Speaking with Dame
Kelly Holmes at the Berryman-sponsored evening event reinforced to
me her passion and feelings for the role of sport in bringing a
positive focus and discipline to the lives of young
people.
"In addition, the Trust works to assist athletes either still in
their sporting careers or upon retirement from their sport, to get
on their feet commercially, by their involvement in the activities
of the Trust with the children it supports, or by helping them with
own business, corporate and commercial opportunities or other
ventures."
He adds: "There is a strong connection between the Trust and
Nottingham and it is a noteworthy step for the city that it played
host to this two-day event, and was able to showcase its sporting
and commercial activities and facilities."
