Stourbridge mechanical and electrical company Kershaw Mechanical
Services has been awarded a new £1.3m school contract.
The company will design and build the mechanical services for a
new extension at Chase High School in Southend-on-Sea, Essex.
The school is opposite Southend Hospital and opened in September
2006, replacing Prittlewell Technology College.
It was extended between 2007 and 2008, increasing the amount of
internal space available. A new sixth form opened there in
September 2008.
The main contractor is Kier Eastern.
Ian Greenstock, sales director for Kershaw Mechanical Services,
said: "This is a fast growing and important school and we are
delighted to play an important part in their latest extension.
"Educational projects are very important to the company, and we
are rapidly developing a good reputation for our work on them."
Kershaw Mechanical Services, based in High Street Wollaston, has
completed a number of projects for schools and hospitals over
recent years.
Last year it was awarded a £1.85m contract to complete the
full mechanical installation of the new St Mary's School in
Cheshunt, Hertfordshire.
Other recent orders included a £1.5m contract at Parkfield
School in Barnet; a £1.7m installation of a second new
primary school in Barnet; and £1m of mechanical services for
two new academic buildings at the University of East Anglia in
Norwich.
Kershaw Mechanical Services also won a £900,000 contract
for a new department at the Birmingham Royal Orthopaedic
Hospital.
It is the lead company of the successful Kershaw Group, which
employs just under 200 people.
