The drpevents team recently hosted a day of Easter celebrations
for service users that attend the Wyre Forest Day Opportunities, in
Kidderminster.
The Wyre Forest Day Opportunities provides expert day care for
adults with learning disabilities. 43 service users, along with
their parents, carers and support workers attended the event held
at drp's Hartlebury facilities, provided as part of the group's
dedication to completing 30 charitable projects in this, their 30th
year of business.
The drpevents team are experts in event management, and have
extensive production facilities and equipment available in
Hartlebury. The team got to know the audience by going to see them
at the day centre, and then worked hard to develop a day full of
activities that were specially planned and adapted so they were
suitable for all service users, enabling them to participate freely
in all parts of the day.
The day's events consisted of drp's very own cinema room,
complete with comfy beanbags and a popcorn service. The Rocket
Experience where the team helped guests to design and create their
very own rockets which were launched from a specially adapted
rocket pad, creating an exciting climax to the day. The guests also
enjoyed karaoke and dancing in a purpose built 'nightclub'
environment which proved a big hit amongst everyone.
With the support from the West Midlands Safari park, guests were
able to interact and meet a range of animals including a snake and
a ferret in a specially created 'Pets Corner'. Throughout the
course of the day, a specially adapted Easter Treasure Hunt was
run, where guests took part in a series of fun games in order to
obtain a final clue and reveal their prize.
The big focal point of the event was the opportunity for guests
to appear in their very own mini feature film. The service users
got the chance to step into the movies themselves using the group's
green screen technology. Provided with a range of different props
the drpteam helped the guests to record their very own video which
they were then given as a DVD at the end of the day.
Throughout the entire planning stages, the drpteam looked at all
of the activities and came up with workable solutions, such as
using air compression units to fire the rockets rather than foot
pumps so those that were less physically able could still join in
with the fun and excitement.

Jane Jones, director of drpevents commented: "This project was
extremely rewarding to the service users, carers and to the Project
Management team, it was wonderful to see so many smiling faces and
people doing things that they had never done before - it really was
an amazing day and one that will be remembered by all"
The whole day supported the service users' activities programme
and gave parents, carers and support workers an opportunity to
enjoy these experiences with their families and friends. "This
project was a great success, the feedback from the parents of the
service users has been fantastic - saying that they had an amazing
time and will treasure the experience", said senior project manager
Matt Franks. "The whole day provided an opportunity for the service
users to try something new and for our team to learn new skills. It
was amazing to see how each and every one of our team members
bonded with the guests. It was a real success"
Delina Summers, deputy manager from Wyre Forest Day
Opportunities commented: "The day was magic, from start to
end. It was fun-filled and full of new exciting experiences and
challenges that the services users had never done before. It was
delightful to see our people try new things and see their faces
light up with wonder at all the activities; everyone's imagination
was working over time.
"The self esteem boost, and excited laughter was for me the
evidence that the hard work and friendly caring professional team
had given us all an experience of a life time- we would like to
thank drpgroup for the experience, it was a wonderful gift."
