A team of apprentices and technical trainees from construction
company Mansell have been getting their hands dirty, cleaning up a
local school pond.
The pond, at The Wordsley School near Stourbridge had become
overgrown and full up with rubbish. So as part of the Black Country
Challenge, the team of volunteers from Mansell's Stourbridge-based
Western Region got to work cleaning it out.
The Mansell team spent a day at the school, clearing the pond so
that wildlife can flourish. Following the clean-up the school plans
to erect a fence around the pond area, helping to keep it clear and
make the area a more pleasant environment for pupils and staff.
Linda Parry from The Wordsley School said she was delighted with
the work done by the Mansell volunteers.
"We really appreciate the work the team has done on the pond
area which looks so much better now, and our student council will
be appointing a group of pond wardens to maintain the area," she
said.
Mansell volunteer team leader Samuel Smith, a trainee site
manager, said, "The team had a fantastic day. It was surprising how
much debris we found in there but we worked really hard and managed
to get the whole pond cleared."
