Half-Marathon
A team from Lodders Solicitors are to swap their briefcases for
running shoes in aid of charity.
All are taking part in the Rotary Shakespeare Half Marathon on
April 25 organised by the Rotary Club of Stratford-upon-Avon.
Steven Baker, a commercial property partner, and Sonia Kang, a
solicitor in the business group, are aiming to boost the funds and
awareness of the Warwickshire Association for the Blind, Lodders'
nominated Charity of the Year.
The charity aims to improve the lives of all blind and partially
sighted people living in Warwickshire.
"It does a wonderful job," said Mr Baker. "It offers great
support and kindness."
Mr Baker is a middle distance off road specialist and a member
of Stratford Athletics Club and Miss Kang is also a keen
runner.
Mike Wakeling, who has taken part in the London Marathon, and
his wife Jane are raising money for their nephew Steven Ward, a
Newcastle University civil engineering student who is set to spend
his summer holiday in Uganda helping the Wider Mbarara Project 2010
to build a home for children orphaned by AIDS.
Around £12,000 has to be raised towards construction costs
and professional advice alone, with each student required to find a
total of £1,500 as their overall contribution.
Mr Wakeling, who heads Lodders' dispute resolution department,
"AIDS is a terrible scourge across large parts of Africa and Uganda
is one of the worst hit. Steven and his fellow students are raising
money for this very worthwhile cause and it deserves our
support."
The four are hoping to raise several thousand pounds.
Mr Baker, Mr Wakeling and Miss Kang all took part in last year's
event.
