More than 50 jobs have been created or retained in Radford
thanks to work by Castle Cavendish, the local regeneration company
responsible for the £900k refurbishment of Tennyson Hall on
Forest Road West.
The landmark Victorian mansion has proved such a draw that it
has been fully let to tenants in time for its official opening on
Wednesday 28 April. Four community organisations have moved into
the premises - the 'Partnership Council', 'The Signpost to Polish
Success', 'Cooperative Community Action Ltd' and 'Residents Voice'
- making Tennyson a local hub for information, advice and
volunteering.
Chief Executive Dave Brennan said: "Developments like this are
key to long-term regeneration and Castle Cavendish is looking for
other opportunities to invest and bring more jobs into Radford and
Hyson Green, areas that have higher than average unemployment."
The property is owned by Castle Cavendish Foundation and was
derelict for almost 10 years before restoration began in earnest
nine months ago. A new roof, floors, re-plastering, new electrics,
plumbing and a high standard of interior finish have been completed
on time and within budget.
Castle Cavendish replaced the Neighbourhood Development Company
as the regeneration body for Radford and Hyson Green in January
2010. It inherited the property portfolio of its predecessor and
operates as a commercial landlord reinvesting its profits into the
community. Castle Cavendish has commercial office space at the
Castle Cavendish Business Centre on Dorking Road and at Tennyson;
industrial units at Hartley Court and retail premises along the
Alfreton Road.
