Tony Davis, the CEO of MedilinkWM, the Life Science industry
association dedicated to driving forward relationships between
industry, academia, and the public and private healthcare and
social services, has been appointed Chairman of the Board of
MedilinkUK and to the start-up Board of the new Health Innovation
and Education Clusters (HIEC) group.
Both roles reinforce Tony's commitment to promoting the Life
Sciences industry to high-level government organisations,
particularly the Department of Health, the Department for Business
Innovation and Skills, and The Office of Life Sciences.
The Board of MedilinkUK, recognised as a flourishing network of
regionally-based, private organisations working to grow the
economic impact of UK Life Sciences, is made-up of the chief
executives of each of the regional Medilinks.
Each regional Medilink is a private limited company, and offers
a range of support services from advice on funding, patents and
medical-grade materials, to support on reaching overseas markets,
each tailored to match and reflect the needs of individual
members.
In recognition of the first-class delivery of benefits to
MedilinkWM members, Tony was appointed the first Chair of
MedilinkUK, and he will now hold the post for a second 12-month
tenure.
In promoting the adoption process of products across a range of
applications and products within Life Sciences, and through his
consultation with academia and industry, Tony has helped to steer
and support the concept of a Board of individuals dedicated to
assisting this process which has now led to the creation of the new
Health Innovation and Education Clusters.
Commenting on his appointments, Tony said: "MedilinkUK strives
to sharpen the focus of the UK government and industry on human
Life Sciences and its vital contribution to the economy.
Involvement with government departments, funding bodies and
decision makers behind relevant initiatives is essential to
delivering value to the membership base. Conversely, meeting with
companies involved in Life Sciences, understanding their issues and
helping them become market leaders, gives MedilinkUK, organisations
and steering bodies aligned with it, a position to influence
regulations and policy and create positive change.
"Being at the helm of MedilinkUK's Board and on the Board of the
new HIEC are both positions of great responsibility and
opportunity, and I will endeavour to utilise this and the contact
the positions deliver to the benefit of the UK Life Sciences
industry. I am excited about the opportunities now available to the
sector and businesses serving it now that the HEIC is in
place."
As CEO of MedilinkWM, Tony's primary aim is to promote industry
to government organisations. He established MedilinkWM in 2003,
with support from AWM, to promote Life Sciences manufacturing and
enhance market opportunities for the benefit of the local economy.
Prior to joining the organisation, Tony worked in industry and
commerce, managed several large corporations, ran European Projects
for Economic Development departments focusing on disability and
healthcare, and developed programmes for mental health
organisations.
MedilinkUK, the 'voice of UK Life Sciences', focuses on human
Life Sciences, which is the study of human biology and the
application of technology to that science. Recognised markets
within Life Sciences are medical technology, medical biotechnology,
medical diagnostics and pharmaceuticals. MedilinkUK has become
influential within political circles and works closely with the
major trade associations under the Life Sciences banner to ensure
the market's specific issues are considered.
