The future of UK plc and the economy of Coventry and
Warwickshire will be the subject of a major business conference in
June.
The Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce is hosting the
event, looking at the state of the economy at the start of a new
Government and the UK's recovery from recession.
The conference - held at Peugeot's new headquarters in Whitley -
will feature a range of national and regional experts who will give
an insight to the economic landscape and how the area is set to
fare in the next decade.
Dennis Turner, HSBC's Chief Economist, will give a financial
overview and outline how he sees the economy progressing, while
David Bailey - professor of International Business Strategy and
Economics at Coventry University and national economic authority -
will talk about rebuilding after recession.
Dr Adam Marshall, Head of Policy at the British Chambers of
Commerce, will also predict what the new Government has in store
for business.
Louise Bennett, Chief Executive of the Chamber, said that the
summer would be a vital time.
She said: "This is a very delicate time for the economy. There
has been talk of recovery for some months now, but the figures show
that any climb from recession is tentative at best.
"There are factors which could work for and against any recovery
and there is no question that the new Government will have a key
role to play with policies it introduces.
"This conference is perfectly timed - six weeks after the
election - for us to begin to see which direction the new
administration is taking and how that will affect industry.
"We have attracted an array of speakers who will reflect that
and look ahead to the implications on the economy and how the UK
and the Coventry and Warwickshire region will fair.
"We are keen for businesses to make a contribution as the
feedback will help us shape our future policy."
Martin Yardley, Director of City Services & Development for
Coventry City Council, will outline the plans to transform the
city, while a panel of award winning local business leaders will
take part in a discussion on harnessing new ideas and technology to
drive business success.
Bennett added: "We hope to be adding to the line-up in the next
few weeks and will be aiming to have a leading Government figure as
soon as we know the election result."
The conference is taking place on Friday, June 18 from 9am until
2pm and includes lunch. More information is available on 024 7665
