Laura Kearsley, an associate at law firm Weightmans LLP has
walked away with a trophy for the second year running this week
when she was named Assistant / Associate Solicitor of the year at
the annual Birmingham Law Society Legal Awards 2010.
The award comes almost exactly a year after Laura, who is part
of the firm's employment team and is based in its Birmingham
office, was successful in the legal category of the region's
inaugural Women on their Way awards.
Laura is a prominent figure in the region's legal community as
Chairwoman of the West Midlands branch of the Association of Women
Solicitors and the judges said that it was her involvement in the
association as well as her tireless work for clients through her
role at Weightmans that really impressed them.
Laura said of the win: "I am so happy to win this award; it
came as a complete surprise! The award ceremony was fantastic and
it was great to have my colleagues there to cheer me on.
"The standard was so high this year so I'm really honoured to
have been chosen for the award."
David Tuck, head of the Birmingham office said of the
win: "This is a great achievement and Laura should be
extremely proud of all the work she has done this year. She is
truly an asset to the Birmingham office and the firm as a
whole."
Laura's colleagues, partner and head of the Commercial Dispute
Resolution and Insolvency team in the Midlands Verona Cocks and
trainee Bhavesh Prajapati were also nominated in the Commercial
Solicitor of the Year and Trainee Solicitor of the Year categories
respectively.
