A charitable Midlands law firm is already marching towards a
bumper total for its new 'charity of the year'.
The 200-strong firm has started its fundraising efforts for its
new charity of the year, Help for Heroes, with its annual quiz.
The event was attended by 40 businesses from across the region,
including Birmingham, Northampton and Cirencester, and was won for
a second year in a row by a team from Catalyst Corporate
Finance.
A total of £2,388 was raised from the night, and further
events are planned for later in the year.
Nick Abell, senior partner at Wright Hassall, said: "We've
been trying to generate thousands of pounds for local and national
charities for many years, but I'm always surprised with how much we
seem to raise.
"This year, staff voted overwhelmingly to support Help for
Heroes and we've made a fantastic start with the proceeds from the
quiz.
"It's a very important cause which plays a key role in
supporting and rehabilitating our armed forces, and we hope that
this time next year we'll be handing over a nice, large
cheque!"
The staff at Wright Hassall had raised £4,411 for its 2009
charity, Myton Hospice and Nigel Adams was on hand at the quiz to
receive the cheque and thank Wright Hassall for its
efforts.
Myton Hospice offers free palliative care to people across
Warwickshire and Coventry, and is heavily reliant on donations.
Mr Adams, community fundraiser for Myton Hospice, said: "It's
obviously crucial to us that local businesses offer support, and
we're very grateful for Wright Hassall's efforts.
"For a charity like ours, every donation makes a difference and
this is a very welcome boost."
