Twenty-five men and women who work for one of Lincoln's biggest
employers, HomeLet, pounded the city's streets at the weekend to
raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
The runners managed to raise over £1,500 by competing in
the 14th Annual Lincoln 10K Road Race on Sunday 21st March.
HomeLet is the UK's leading specialist insurance provider for
the lettings industry and employs over 320 people at its
headquarters at Becor House in Lincoln.
Every year HomeLet staff elect a charity to focus their efforts
on and this year they've chosen the cancer support charity
Macmillan which improves the lives of people affected by the
disease.
The charity's Fundraising Manager Gemma Dixon said: "We are so
grateful for the support from the HomeLet employees who took part
in the Lincoln 10k Road Race. For every step they have taken, they
have helped raise money for people who are living with cancer in
the UK today.
Whether they have raised £10 or £100 every single
penny really does make a difference. Raising just £10 could
pay for 20 copies of The Cancer Guide. This Macmillan booklet can
help somebody recently diagnosed with cancer and their family to
understand cancer, its treatment and the help available.
"Everyone knows someone who has been affected by cancer, and I
would really like to say a HUGE thank you to all of those who took
part, but also to those who cheered them on and to those who gave
so generously."
In 2009 HomeLet raised over £10,000 for St Barnabas
Hospice through various fund-raising activities including cake
stalls, book sales and a sponsored dog walk around Hartsholme
Country Park.
Referencing Manager Sarah Day, who is also one of the company's
Charity Champions, said she hopes they can raise as much if not
more this year.
"Everyone trained really hard for the Lincoln 10K and the
company covered the cost of applying to encourage more staff to
take part. This was our first big event in 2010 and I'm delighted
everyone's hard work has paid off," said Sarah.
Managing Director John Boyle added: "As a company and one of the
city's main employers HomeLet is keen to support local events,
particularly those which provide us with an opportunity to raise
vital funds for our Charity of the Year.
"I want to congratulate all those who took part and thank them
for all their hard work. Macmillan Cancer Support is a very
worthwhile cause as cancer is a terrible disease which blights so
many lives."
